The guiding principle behind Secklow Country is the sentiment expressed by Kris Kristofferson at the beginning of Me And Bobbie McGee – “If it sounds country, that’s what it is. It’s a country song”. From Western Swing to Southern Boogie, from Cajun to Country Rock, from Tex-Mex to Tears-In-Your-Beer – there’s room for all of them in Secklow Country, going right back to Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family, through Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, right up to date with Brad Paisley and Lady Antebellum. Regular features include tracks from a Classic Country album, a pair of country number ones from this week in past years, and Gone Country – a song by a non-country artist or band which, in Kristofferson’s words “sounds country”. There’ll also be news of upcoming local gigs and interviews with the stars who’ll be visiting our area, as well as studio sessions from some of the local musicians playing country music in the pubs and clubs around Milton Keynes.
